Row, Row, Row Your Dragon Boat!

2014 September/October Edition

Being a river city is just one of the many reasons Paducah has so many creative ways to celebrate. Of late, rowing so-called “dragon” boats up and down the river each fall has been added to the mix. As a River Discovery Center fundraiser, this new-to-Paducah event is making a colorful entry into Paducah’s annual riverfront gatherings.

The story goes that when Luther Carson was rescued by boat during the 1937 flood he remarked to his boat mates that when he reached dry ground that’s where he planned to build his Coca Cola bottling building. That high point turned out to be at the corner of Broadway and Lone Oak Road.
