While the main event this August 21 will be totality with a duration of 2 minutes 21 seconds, the partial phase begins nearly an hour-and-a-half earlier, offering a spectacular pre-show. If you are able to enjoy partiality and totality, why not set the mood with an eclipse-themed soundtrack? Here are some of our suggestions to get you started. Perhaps, like Pink Floyd, we’ll “see you on the dark side of the moon.”

1. “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonne Tyler

“Once upon a time there was light in my life, but now there's only love in the dark. Nothing I can say—a total eclipse of the heart.”

2. “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers

“And I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know…”

3. “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden

“Black hole sun, won't you come, won't you come?”

4. “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon

“Then you flew your Learjet up to Nova Scotia to see the total eclipse of the sun.”

5. “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay

“'Cause you're a sky, you're a sky full of stars. Such a heavenly view.”

6. “How to Disappear Completely” by Radiohead

“In a little while, I’ll be gone. The moment's already passed. Yeah it's gone.”

7. “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” by The Walker Brothers

“The sun ain't gonna shine anymore. The moon ain't gonna rise in the sky. The tears are always clouding your eyes, when you're without love.”

8. “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder “You are the sunshine of my life. That's why I'll always be around.”

9. “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles

“Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo). Here comes the sun, and I say it's all right.”

10. “Brain Damage/Eclipse” by Pink Floyd

“And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon.”
