This year the ladies of the League succeeded in turning trash into treasure in more ways than one!
In March, the Charity League of Paducah hosted Bargain Fair, a quadrennial event in which donated items are sold at a public sale. To add to the fun (and fundraising) Bargain Fair went "boutique" this year and had local designers design rooms using items from Bargain Fair.
"We were overwhelmed by the response from the community,” said League President Mary Hunter Hancock. “Bargain Fair is an event extremely dependent on the general public, from item donations made by League Associates to attendance.” Designers included Bill Ford Interiors, Kenn Gray for Ethan Allen Design Center, Kijsa Housman Studios, Randi T. Stovesand with Tanley Blake Interiors, Sara Falder for Petals and Pots, and Saunie Rothwell Interior Design. Each designer staged a room at the Bargain Fair using at least twenty-five percent donated items in their creation. “The designers’ creative use of ‘lost and found’ was absolutely inspiring,” Hancock added.
The event was a huge success and the Charity League was able to make a $35,000 donation to Easter Seals of Western Kentucky—more than doubling the donation from the last Bargain Fair.
