The Paducah Garden Club celebrated its 100th anniversary in true garden club fashion by hosting a garden party at the lovely home of Mr. Basil and Genie Drossos.
The excitement in the atmosphere was simply contagious. As club members sported dresses and outfits from the various time periods that the club has been in existence, one felt as if they had experienced its entire history in one afternoon.
Music from a string quartet drifted through the air, guests enjoyed finger foods and were even given the opportunity to take a horse and carriage ride in the rear lawn of the Drossos home.
One of the main themes that rang throughout the afternoon however was pride in a garden club that has indeed been in existence as long as the Garden Club of America and has taken such extensive action to keep Paducah beautiful.
“We are a garden club that is mostly focused on the community,” Mary Dyer says. “I think this 100th Anniversary is a wonderful thing. And I think it makes us feel good to know that we have been a garden club as long as the Garden Club of America.”
And wonderful it was. This anniversary, and its celebratory garden party, will surely join the pages of the Paducah Garden Club history as one of the countless proud and joyous moments in this club’s life.
