O.H. Ingram River Aged: West Kentucky’s Local Bourbon

by | Nov 20, 2024 | Lifestyle

The story of bourbon, America’s native spirit, is closely intertwined with the Mississippi River; the same river that’s the lifeblood of our region.

In the early 1800s, Kentucky farmers sent barrels of clear spirits down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and by the time they were opened in New Orleans, the spirit had achieved a deep flavor complexity and an amber hue. Bourbon’s popularity soon took off, and the rest is history.

O.H. Ingram River Aged is going back to the roots of bourbon by again harnessing the power of the river to create extraordinary whiskies. On the far western edge of Kentucky in the small town of Columbus, they have pioneered the original floating rickhouses moored on the banks of the Mississippi.

Here, their barrels feel the full energy of the mighty Mississippi for their entire lives. As they age, they are exposed to the microclimate and humidity of the river, along with its constant motion, which creates complexity through a unique interaction between whiskey and oak

These conditions cannot be recreated inside a traditional rickhouse, and the result is a fleet of award-winning whiskies with a smooth taste. They call it Mellowed on the Mississippi.

O.H. Ingram whiskies are available in stores and on shelves throughout West Kentucky. Pick up a bottle this holiday season so you and your loved ones can experience the magic of the river we capture in every sip. It also makes for the perfect gift.
